(1/3) When I lived in Malaysia, there was heaps of rural space for a kid to run around in, but when I was 2, my family moved to Singapore, where it was all high rises. I never really settled there, mostly because school was so regimental. Every day, it was just books books books, and then homework homework homework. There was a lot of rote learning, which didn’t suit me. As a result, I struggled academically, and every year I was streamed further and further down. The only thing that kept me going was playing football for 2 hours every Sunday. By the time I finished high school, I was deemed a useless student and recommended to do an office secretary course.
Now I’ve got a Masters of Accounting with Distinction. It wasn’t easy, but I was determined. I started by doing a Diploma in Management in a private college, then I transitioned to a Bachelor of Business degree in the offshore RMIT program. In 2008, I came to Australia to do my Masters, because my sister was living here. After I graduated, I applied to stay as a skilled migrant.

Great work Michael. I like your commitment 🙂
There is a place in the sun……where there is room for everyone. Singapore sometimes makes route learning difficult for many, does not mean they will not succeed, one size glove does not fit all. Good to see people excel everywhere including Singapore.
Well done, you are the only one who achieved this great outcome, with the help of the Australian system here, enjoy this beautiful country!
Msia’s education system isn’t any different from Spore. It is very much rote learning and it has benefitted many. In Msia there are many private, international and homeschooling schools nowadays a
I am from Msia with Msian education background came to Australia under skilled migration and have made it my home here.
Spore is one of the country I admire for it is 1st class country despite its size.
Good on you for making what works for you

learning by rote is not all bad. When one is older that is what is remembered.
