(1/3) When I lived in Malaysia, there was heaps of rural space for a kid to run around in, but when I was 2, my family moved to Singapore, where it was all high rises. I never really settled there, mostly because school was so regimental. Every day, it was just books books books, and then homework homework homework. There was a lot of rote learning, which didn’t suit me. As a result, I struggled academically, and every year I was streamed further and further down. The only thing that kept me going was playing football for 2 . . .
